ABOUT

I believe in being authentic, caring, and compassionate. I’ve worked as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for 13 years and have worked in mental health and social work for over 20 years.

My social work career began in child protective services in northern Kentucky.  I went on to earn a Master of Social Work from the University of South Florida.  For the past nine years, I’ve worked as an Adjunct Professor in a Master of Social Work program at Saint Leo University and for the last three years, I’ve worked as a Psychotherapist with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at the University of Virginia.  Deciding to open a private practice feels like a natural extension of the work I’m currently doing.

Our family life has taken us to multiple states, starting in Florida and, most recently Boston, Massachusetts prior to our move to Charlottesville, Virginia.  I love our Charlottesville community and am involved in numerous community organizations.

Clinical Approach

Not everyone’s therapy needs are the same. Using a collaborative, empathetic, and relationship-based style I tailor therapy for the individual. I draw on skills from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment therapy as well as mindfulness and self-affirmation to help people develop and strengthen positive coping skills while decreasing negative thoughts and behaviors.

Often the negative thoughts we tell ourselves become what we believe about ourselves. By learning to challenge and break these automatic negative thought patterns we can move forward with self-compassion, grace, and kindness.

Past relationships don’t have to define future relationships. YOU have the power to choose what your future looks like. YOU have the power to become who you want to be. YOU have the power to let go of guilt, to be more present, and to learn more about yourself and what brings you joy.

I believe therapy should be a place where you can be your authentic self. I am LGBTQ+ affirming and I strive to provide a safe place that is free of racism and bias.
